18ème Façad’Art_La Madeleine_Lille 3000_2015

The Façad’art 2015 Fes­ti­val took place in the sur­roun­dings of the for­mer Huet fac­to­ry, an impor­tant place in the his­to­ry of the Ber­kem dis­trict of La Made­leine in Lille Metro­pole. The asso­cia­tion of dis­trict’s inha­bi­tants ques­tio­ned four artists on the notion of “living in” a ter­ri­to­ry, a dis­trict, a his­to­ry. Each artist pre­sen­ted an ins­tal­la­tion on or near the building.
I went to meet the inha­bi­tants to invite them to bring me in their favou­rite place in the neigh­bou­rhood, where I took a por­trait. The sen­tence WHERE IS THE PLACE ? writ­ten in big let­ters on a white ban­ner hung on the out­side wall of the buil­ding, was like a refrain : WHERE IS THE PLACE ? HERE IS THE PLACE.

Le Fes­ti­val Façad’art 2015 inves­tit les abords de l’ancienne chauf­fe­rie de l’usine Huet, lieu impor­tant de l’histoire du quar­tier de Ber­kem à La Made­leine, dans la métro­pole lil­loise. L’association d’habitants du quar­tier ont ques­tion­né quatre artistes sur la notion d’“habiter” un ter­ri­toire, un quar­tier, une his­toire. Cha­cun a pré­sen­té une ins­tal­la­tion sur le bâti­ment ou à proximité.
Je suis allée à la ren­contre des habi­tants pour les invi­ter à m’emmener dans leur lieu favo­ri du quar­tier, où je réa­li­sai un por­trait. La phrase WHERE IS THE PLACE ? ins­crite en grosses lettres sur un ban­deau blanc, col­lé sur le mur exté­rieur du bâti­ment, s’affichait comme un refrain : WHERE IS THE PLACE ? HERE IS THE PLACE.
