Exhi­bi­tion Zufall_Onomato Kunstverein_Düsseldorf_2013

During a two-month artist resi­den­cy in Düs­sel­dorf, I went to meet some locals, whom I asked to take me to a unique place to which they felt stron­gly atta­ched. I fol­lo­wed these local inha­bi­tants to their cho­sen place and made a pho­to­gra­phic and video­gra­phic por­trait, wit­nes­sing the moment in which each of them drif­ted off into their memo­ries… They are as they are, uncut, power­ful in the depth of inti­ma­cy they reveal. I also asked each per­son to com­plete this por­trait if they wished, by giving me a list of twelve to fif­teen titles of books or music pieces most impor­tant in their lifes.
At the same time, I map­ped out all the impor­tant encoun­ters, from my birth until July 2013 (date of this artist resi­den­cy). This large dra­wing extends chro­no­lo­gi­cal­ly and almost geo­gra­phi­cal­ly from names to names, one link lea­ding to an other, until they all weave into reliefs…
These various pieces were exhi­bi­ted at the Ono­ma­to Kunst­ve­rein Gal­le­ry in Düs­sel­dorf in the form of an ins­tal­la­tion entit­led Zufall (Coin­ci­dence). The rela­tion­ship­map of which I pre­sen­ted an excerpt from 1984 (when I first came to Ger­ma­ny) to 2013, entit­led Car­to­gra­phy #1, was the pro­logue. It lin­ked all the ele­ments of the exhi­bi­tion, the por­trait lists, the pho­to­gra­phic and video por­traits, each per­son being loca­ted on the map.

En rési­dence de créa­tion pen­dant deux mois à Düs­sel­dorf, je suis allée à la ren­contre de per­sonnes, à qui je deman­dais de m’emmener dans un lieu sin­gu­lier, auquel ils étaient for­te­ment atta­chés. Je sui­vais ces habi­tants jusqu’à l’endroit choi­si et réa­li­sais un por­trait pho­to­gra­phique et vidéo­gra­phique, témoins de ce moment où cha­cun s’évadait dans ses sou­ve­nirs… Ils sont ren­dus tels quels, sans cut, forts dans l’intimité qu’ils dégagent. 
Je sol­li­ci­tais éga­le­ment cha­cun d’eux de com­plé­ter ce por­trait, s’ils le sou­hai­taient, en me remet­tant une liste de douze à quinze titres de livres ou de musiques, qui soient essen­tiels dans leur vie.
Paral­lè­le­ment, j’ai car­to­gra­phié toutes les ren­contres impor­tantes depuis ma nais­sance jusqu’à juillet 2013 (date de cette rési­dence d’ar­tiste). Ce grand des­sin s’étend de façon chro­no­lo­gique et qua­si géo­gra­phique de pré­noms en pré­noms, de liens en liens qui se tissent en reliefs…
Ces dif­fé­rentes pièces ont été expo­sées à la gale­rie Ono­ma­to Kunst­ve­rein à Düs­sel­dorf, sous forme d’une ins­tal­la­tion inti­tu­lée “Zufall” (Hasard). La carte rela­tion­nelle dont je pré­sen­tais un extrait de 1984 (date à laquelle je suis venue pour la pre­mière fois en Alle­magne) à 2013, inti­tu­lée “Car­to­gra­phie #1″, en était le pro­logue. Elle reliait tous les élé­ments de l’exposition, les por­traits-listes, les por­traits pho­to­gra­phiques et vidéo­gra­phiques, chaque per­sonne étant située sur cette carte.
